So I played WWE '13 at Best Buy twice and I managed to record stuff with my old Android Phone. This is how the trip went:
The first thing I checked was to see if the kickpads option was present for females. Those of you who have experienced the gender restrictions and such can understand why I'd consider this important enough to check.
I was disappointed in the fact that you still can’t change the attribute limits for females regardless of weight class. So if you made a heavyweight female like Bertha Faye or Kharma (who isn’t even listed as a Light-Heavyweight) you’d still have the same attribute caps as the Featherweight females. I don’t think this should be exclusive to males.
Beyond that, I saw 2 new pair of underwear and a new pair of boots. I doubt the male side got much new either but that’s not why I went.
They added some new tights designs that are basically designs from actual wrestlers like William Regal and The Miz. CM Punk’s stars and stripes are also available.
You’ve probably seen THQ’s videos where they show the option to apply moveable logos on both legs at the same time. I checked it and it does work on socks/shoes and kneepads. I didn’t check arms or any other areas though. When you do it, you get transparency of course, and the logos will scale and move at the same time so there are no more worries about logos being symmetrical.
The downside to this experience is that I saw no new shirts, bras, tights, pants, body accessories, or ‘outfits’ (excluding a bodysuit which is like the Goldust bodysuit). It didn’t bother me too much; I assumed it was a case of caws not being the primary focus this year.
Then I went to the moveset section to see how things had changed and what new moves I could see. It’s a demo with characters still locked and no DLC so it’s not the entire picture here.
THQ expanded on the movesets greatly this year.
You have your 4 Chain Grapple Positions and your Front/Back Groggy Positions, but you have a lot more options for moves now. Pressing A (Xbox 360) or X (PS3) does a move in addition to pressing those buttons + a direction on the D-Pad/Analog Stick.
In each chain grapple and Groggy (Front and Back Groggy count as a single position here) Position has 4 Limb Targeting moves. This gives you a move for the head, 2 for the arms, and one for the legs. And they give you a lot of leeway in regards to what these moves are. For example, you could give someone a DDT or Chokeslam as a Limb Targeting move for the head as they do head damage.
In addition, there are weight detection moves. There is one for each grapple position (One for Front Facelock, one for Side Headlock, etc) as well as the groggy positions. This replaces a move in your moveset that's deemed impossible for your character to perform on a bigger wrestler.
But this also applies to Limb Targeting moves too. So you get a Weight Detection move for targeting the Head, one for the Arms, and one for the Legs. So overall your moveset will be pretty open despite any possible weight class issues.
There are also limb targeting moves on the ground, but you get 3 instead of 4. I can't recall whether it was 3 for the entire position or 3 for each side of the body. In any case, it's a lot of moves to fill out in a moveset.
Personally, I like it because it not only covers issues with weight classes (not that it bothered me), but also allows for so much room for getting all of those moves we always want to add because it makes the moveset realistic and you don't want to replace anything for it.
After that, I checked strikes. There are some new kicks that target the legs as well as a sweep kick that actually knocks an opponent down. Outside of that, there wasn’t much new and there were no new Strong Strikes.
After that, I checked the wake up taunts and noticed that only CM Punk had a new one. I believe more will be available when more characters are unlocked. Some of the new taunts (as in not exclusive to wake up) are pretty nice.
I finally made it into the finisher/signature move section. I was disappointed in the fact that Old School can’t be used as a chain grapple (it’d be a perfect fit for the wristlock grapple position), but I saw a lot of new moves that can be seen in the videos themselves. Outside of that, there’s the fact that you can use created moves as signatures but THQ already mentioned that.
As far as gameplay goes, the AI didn’t seem to try and perform a grapple as soon as they grabbed you which made it too easy to beat depending on difficulty. The AI actually waits sometimes which is funny because supposedly some people don’t like that for w/e reason.
The one big concern I had was with count outs. If you’re hit with a finisher (in my experience it was the OMG Moment Superplex to the outside of the ring), the referee will start counting and you have to try and recover in the same fashion you would in a Last Man Standing match. If you’ve had experience with that Match Type before, you’ll see the reason why I see it as a potential issue.
Beyond that, there isn’t much to tell but feel free to ask questions.
